Food & Fresh Water Project: Kenya
The Akolong, Teso North sub region is located in Western Kenya near Uganda with a population of approximately 5,400 people. This region is characterized by high levels of poverty and diseases such as malaria, cholera, kwashiorkor and various cases of malnutrition.

Growing Water demand and scarcity along with poor management of water resources have aggravated the issue of water crisis in the region.

Due to the nature of the terrain and lack of resources, many problems exist because of limited resources for aquaculture management. The Divine Order Foundation in conjunction with native aquaculture professionals are funding the building of up to three(3) 120 to 250 meter solar-powered water wells. This is expected to provide a long term source of clean well water good for agriculture, cattle farming, and more importantly for thousands of families that are currently lacking access to this life sustaining resource that a lot of us take for granted.

Present State
Currently, most people depend on rain water and water left over from rivers and streams which are dirty and unhealthy for human consumption. People have to walk 3 miles in search of water. Many in the region depend on physically built wells which are seasonal especially during droughts.
Progress
Geological and Geophysical Surveys had been taken place in the area to determine the best location to obtain fresh underground water. It was determined that a 120 ft well would be dug in the first area. See Construction in progress for first well.
Goal
To have 2-3 solar powered wells local to the region capable for providing fresh water for all the families. The first well has been built. Won't you please give for the construction of the other wells to allow families easier access to retrieve and carry clean fresh water back to their homes?
